You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11

Welcome!

I’m Karen Hull, a deeply biblical Christian who is also a licensed professional counselor with a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.

After working for ten years at the counseling center at Houston’s First Baptist Church, I now conduct a private counseling practice in my comfortable and welcoming home office in Spring, Texas. I’m also able to provide secure, HIPAA-compliant video counseling through my practice management website.

My counseling hours are currently 11am-6pm Tuesday through Thursday.

I am a member of Focus on the Family’s Christian Counselor Network. The term “Christian” can mean different things to different people, including professional counselors. Focus on the Family requires its Network members to submit detailed information to make sure their counseling views and methods are in line with biblical truth. They also make sure each counselor’s licensing claims are accurate and current. This doesn’t guarantee that a given member of the network (including me) will be a good fit for you, but it provides a level of protection for you and your family.

My areas of training and experience include helping people heal and grow from trauma, abuse, and other adverse experiences; anxiety and depression; marital and family issues; grief and loss; chronic stress; and dealing with difficult situations or life transitions. These situations can take various forms, including postpartum depression, pre- and post-menopausal mood issues, “empty nest” adjustment, caregiver stress, and many others.

I counsel from a biblical worldview. Biblical counseling bears a strong resemblance to cognitive-behavioral counseling with two massive differences: 1) Scripture is used as the standard for healthy thoughts and actions, and 2) God is actively acknowledged as the necessary and ultimate Healer in and through the work of both the counselor and the client.

I am also trained and experienced in EMDR, a highly effective, research-supported method for helping people heal from trauma and abuse as well as from other issues that have their roots in adverse experiences. You can learn more about this method by clicking the “Healing from Trauma” link at the top of this page.

Along with biblical counseling and EMDR, I use sand tray, relaxation techniques, and a variety of other modalities. I work with each client to develop the approach that will best fit that person’s needs.
